It was our two years and six months, so we decided to treat ourselves to a massive feast at The River Cafe. It was our first time here so we were both excited to see what this restaurant had to offer! Here was our experience…
First up we had appetisers – bruschetta and 10 grilled oysters. The bruschetta was really simple but tasted great. It consisted of char grilled slice of ciabatta, topped with roma tomatoes and rockets, followed by a drizzle of balsamic reduction.(Unfortunately we forgot to jot down the name of the dishes). With the oysters, they were nice and fresh and had the perfect amount of toppings, so we were overall very happy with our starters. The evening was off to a great start!
For mains she ordered the Beef Fillet with truffled mash, broccolini and balsamic reduction! She loved every part of this dish! From the soft and tender steak, to the creamy mash and the crunchy broccolini. It’s basically what she envisioned her dish to be! Each ingredient complimented each other perfectly, with the mash balancing out the flavours coming from the steak, and the broccolini adding a different texture to the whole entire dish.
For the main he ordered the Chef’s Special which consisted of steak filled with oysters (he forgot what steak he had), grilled cherry tomatoes, coupled with two natural oysters and a side of chef’s special sauce. He found the dish to be quite unique as it was his first time ever eating steak with oyster fillings. The steak was seasoned well and blended nicely with the sauce. He found the meat to be quite tough, and unfortunately he was caught up on talking the whole night, that he left his steak to cool down before finishing the dish.
To accompany our mains, we had two sides of a warm salad and sautéed mushrooms in garlic butter! The salad was his favourite as it was quite unique. There was a mixture of purple carrots, red cabbage, mint, coriander, orange and nuts! She ate the salad except for the orange pieces as she was not quite used to having fruit in a salad. He however, loved the salad because there was orange in it! Unfortunately, we both found the mushroom to be quite average. It wasn’t quite what we had expected and we didn’t particularly enjoy the pearl mushrooms.
The best part about the whole experience was our view. We got to enjoy our nice meal with a breath-taking view of the Adelaide city. We truly do underestimate how wonderful our city is. It’s very small and peaceful, and that’s exactly how we like it.
Overall, it was a memorable dinner as we had a decent meal, a very relaxing view and we were able to celebrate our two and a half years of being together. There’s no other way we would’ve wanted to celebrate than to have a glass of wine while watching the lights of the city come to life when the sun had set.
His and hers rating: 7.5/10
